Why can't their be a youth academy that signs the best 17-20 year-olds in the country and puts them on display against the CBA, NBADL ect? If the AND1 tour can make money, why couldnt the U20 team make money?

I think it is more likely that he succeeded because of Europe rather than in spite of it. First, he played against talented, motivated, mercenaries, not other 18, 19 and 20 year-olds. When the stars can get 6 or 7 figures, but the bench guys barely scrape by, competition for roster spots will teach you how to play for money. And the teams financial success (relegation/ promotion) WILL be determined by how well they do on the floor, so the coach isnt gonna play you unless you can get it done. Second, they have a 24 second shot-clock, so getting good shots quickly is crucial. There is no working the ball around and letting the offense score, waiting for the third ball reversal every possession. Most NBA kids would be better served if there were a minor league system equivalent to that of Major league baseball. Graduate high school, then dedicate your life to the sport. Of course those who dont make the league are well served by having a degree... I wonder why it is that we can have 4 minor league teams for each MLB squad, but not even 1 for each NBA squad?

The relationship between the NBA and Euroleague, I is basically the same as that between Major League Soccer and the Premier League or Champions League. Namely, people who really appreciate the sport at its highest level will want to watch the best league in the world. At the same time they want their domestic league to improve. Paradoxically, it is because they are interested in the best league that the domestic one will never be as good. Why is that? Because the best league in the world will continue to get the lion share of TV, Merchandising, and Corporate sponsorship money. Without regular international competition, I dont see how the US and europian leagues in both bball and soccer would become equal. and who would agree to that?
